Crescent rolls submitted by Katie
Ingredients:
2 cups warm water
2T yeast
¾ cup 1T sugar
1 cup butter
1 ½ cup milk
1T salt
1 egg
9-10 cups flour
Directions:
In a small bowl or glass measuring cup, mix water, yeast,
and 1T sugar. Let sit until foamy. In a microwave safe bowl, heat ½ cup butter,
milk and remaining sugar (at least 2 minutes or until butter is completely
melted). Add this mixture to large bowl or mixer and add in 2 cups flour and
salt to help cool. Add egg and yeast mixture, then remaining flour. Knead for 5
minutes. Cover and let rise about 1 hour.
Divide dough into 4 balls. Roll each ball into a circle and
spread on the remaining butter (leave a little to rub in top of rolls after you
remove them from the oven). Cut each circle into 12 triangles and roll. You can
fit 2 dozen on a cookie sheet. Let rise another hour. Bake 350 degrees for approximately
18 minutes. Brush with remaining butter.
To freeze cook all the way and cool then freeze. Thaw to
warm. Bake 10 minutes in foil if wanted.
Works for cinnamon rolls as well.
Make sure your yeast is active, foamy.
Roll and let rise, I'm not the best at the same sizes, but if they are you can fit 2 dozen on a sheet.
